  1. Cassio is Othello’s lieutenant and a young, inexperienced soldier. They have been friends for a long time and Othello thinks highly of him. His high position is very resented by Iago. Cassio is devoted to Othello and is ashamed after getting into a drunken brawl and losing his place as a lieutenant because of Iago. He takes full responsibility for what happened and does not blame anyone even though Iago started the whole thing. He agrees with Othello decision to remove him from lieutenant because he is not able to make up for his actions. Cassio is also a ladies man and when Iago sees him kissing his wife he gets really mad and starts to plan his revenge. Iago uses Cassio’s youth, good looks, and friendship with Desdemona to play on Othello’s insecurities about Desdemona cheating on him and it works. Othello believes this rumor because of how Cassio is towards women and the way Iago persuades him. Cassio sees women as virgins or whores. He respects Desdemona and sees her as the Virgin Mary. Cassio mocks his “girlfriend” Bianca and sadly she is very in love with him. He always laughs when her name gets brought up and pretty much uses her for sex. He is not guilty for sleeping with another mans wife but he is a huge jerk and disrespectful when it comes to women a lot of the time. Iago persuades Roderigo to kill Cassio, and together they arrange and ambush. Roderigo attacks Cassio by surprise. Cassio retaliates and mortally wounds Roderigo, but then got stabbed from behind by Iago. His leg is wounded, but he survives. Iago then kills the wounded Roderigo. Before committing suicide, Othello apologizes to Cassio for believing Iago's lies about him. Cassio is a very honest and trustworthy character.
